If you’d like to restore youthful fullness to your face, enjoy plump lips, enhance shallow contours or soften facial wrinkles, dermal fillers may be the answer. Dermal fillers have been called “liquid facelifts” because they offer many of the benefits of a surgical facelift without the downtime. Although they can’t help with excess sagging skin, these soft tissue fillers can add more volume and provide results at a lower cost than surgery. Dermal fillers are often used in conjunction with other skin rejuvenation treatments such as injections of botulinum toxin. There are many different brands and types of dermal fillers. Those offered at United Dermatology Associates are listed below.

Juvederm

Juvederm1-300x142JUVÉDERM® is a smooth gel filler that instantly smoothes away wrinkles around your mouth and nose. With just one treatment, you’ll get smooth and natural-looking results that last up to a year. It is composed of hyaluronic acid, which is a natural substance normally found in the skin. It is infused with lidocaine to improve comfort during treatment. JUVÉDERM® is also used to give more fullness to the lips. »Visit Website

Juvederm Voluma

Before-and-After-Oxnard-Ventura-JUVÉDERM-VOLUMA™-XC-2The loss of midface volume is one of the hallmarks of facial aging. This occurs in varying degrees of severity, and can lead to significant changes in the facial appearance. One of the most noticeable changes is the loss of cheekbone definition. Historically, this was addressed with surgery to tighten the overlying skin and lift the deeper soft tissues. More recently, volumizing fillers have been used to provide a similar ‘lift’ without surgery. The goal is to restore volume in the midface to create a natural, youthful face.

Juvederm Voluma is the first filler formulated with lidocaine that is FDA approved to restore age-related volume changes in the cheeks. Unlike other fillers commonly used to treat the midface, Voluma is a hyaluronic acid (HA) filler. HA fillers are made from long chains of sugars that occur naturally in the skin. Juvederm Voluma is unique in that the HA is cross-linked through a process called Vycross that helps provide an excellent lifting capacity. This special cross-linking also helps to avoid degradation, making Voluma last almost twice as long as other fillers. Studies have shown that it can last up to 2 years. And since it is an HA filler, it can be molded and shaped into the desired contour after injection. »Visit Website

Juvederm Volbella

Juvederm Volbella contains the thinnest, most spreadable gel, which makes it perfect to fill fine lip lines or even smooth the delicate area under the eyes. Volbella will subtly plump your lips to give the most natural-looking lip volume and contour.

Juvederm Volbella contains the thinnest, most spreadable gel, which makes it perfect to fill fine lip lines or even smooth the delicate area under the eyes. Volbella will subtly plump your lips to give the most natural-looking lip volume and contour.

Juvederm Vollure

Juvederm Vollure caters to many patients’ needs because it is the best of both worlds in terms of durability and spreadability. Vollure helps smooth deep wrinkles for a refreshed look, as well as gently restoring natural-looking contours in the lower face. Vollure is ideal for injection into nasolabial folds while allowing for natural facial expressions and movements.

Radiesse

radiesseresults-300x169Collagen is what gives volume, flexibility and strength to healthy, young skin. As a part of the aging process, your own natural collagen breaks down, diminishing facial volume and elasticity. This loss of elasticity and volume results in wrinkles, facial lines and skin laxity – all of which rob your skin of its youthful, fresh appearance. Ideal wrinkle reduction is achieved by replenishing your skin’s lost volume. Upon injection, RADIESSE® Volumizing Filler immediately provides the volume and lift needed to diminish the signs of aging because of the calcium-based microspheres and gel that comprise the product. But what’s unique about RADIESSE Volumizing Filler is that it acts as a scaffold under the skin, providing structure and stimulating your own natural collagen to grow. This process continues for several months, which extends the initial effect of RADIESSE Volumizing Filler. Best of all, the natural results are clinically proven to last a year or more in many patients. »Visit Website

Restylane Defyne and Restylane Refyne

Restylane Defyne and Restylane Refyne incorporate a special XpresHAn technology, deeming these products as next-generation hyaluronic acid fillers. The technology allows for the product to move within the face as facial expressions are made to prevent a fake, injected or unnatural look.

Restylane Refyne was approved for the treatment of moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds from the nose to mouth and Restylane Defyne for the treatment of moderate to severe, deep facial wrinkles and folds of the lower face. Defyne is bit thicker than Refyne, and is good to treat areas of the face that animate frequently but need correction.  Refyne is less firm than Defyne and can refine more superficial lines.  Both of these products will maintain their structure, but allow for very natural movement of the face. Like memory foam – this gel moves and molds with your natural movement and then returns to its natural shape – so it is ideal for the areas of the face where there is a lot of movement.

Both of these fillers last up to 12 months compared to regular Restylane which lasts approximately 6-8 months. These fillers are flexible and are ideal for the areas of the face that have a lot of movement.

Restylane Silk

Restylane-Silk-before-and-afterLike other areas of the face, the lips and skin surrounding the mouth show signs of aging as an individual gets older. This often results in lip thinning, lost shape and an increase in vertical lines above the lip.

Restylane Silk is designed specifically to provide natural-looking results in these areas. That’s why it’s made of smaller, smoother particles than those used in other Restylane products.

Restylane® Silk’s unique particle gel formula, along with an ultrafine needle designed for improved accuracy, helps give you softer, more precise results — just what you need for a natural-looking smile. »Visit Website

Sculptra

sculptraimages3-300x175Sculptra is different from traditional fillers in the way that it works in your skin. Traditional fillers provide immediate volume in the area treated, whereas Sculptra is a facial injectable that works gradually in a series of treatments–on average, three injection sessions over a few months — for a subtle, more youthful looking appearance. The active ingredient—poly-L-lactic acid— has been used safely for decades in dissolvable stitches and as a facial injectable since 1999 in over 30 countries. This material is gradually reabsorbed by the body, but it works to improve one’s appearance by stimulating the skin to produce collagen. Optimal results are seen within 6-9 months. This reinforced collagen structure provides a foundation that gradually restores the look of fullness of your shallow to deep facial wrinkles and folds that have developed over time. »Visit Website

Kybella

With COVID-19, we’re reminded that none of us are invincible. It’s important to maintain a strong immune system for our health, no matter what age we are. Diet is a HUGE part of our immune system; these are some foods that can help naturally boost your immune system.

✨Ginger – A popular ingredient we turn to after getting sick. This is because it has anti-inflammatory properties, which can help soothe a sore throat and other inflammatory illnesses.

✨Almonds – We don’t always think of Vitamin E when fighting off a cold, but Vitamin E is key to a healthy immune system. Nuts (like almonds) are packed with Vitamin E and also a great source for healthy fats!

✨Citrus fruits – Were all familiar with the health benefits of Vitamin C, but did you know it’s not just Oranges that are rich in Vitamin C, Grapefruits, Limes, Lemons, Tangerines, and Clementines are just as Vitamin C rich.

✨Broccoli – Clearly is the superstar of the group. Packed with Vitamin A, C, and E as well as other antioxidants and fiber, a serving of Broccoli a day and you’ll be good to go! The trick is keeping all vitamins and minerals in tacked when eat it. Try cooking it as little as possible.

✨Papaya – Still not a fan or citrus? That’s ok Papaya is loaded with Vitamin C. One Papaya has 224% of the daily recommended amount of Vitamin C.

✨Kiwi – You can’t go wrong with Kiwi’s, they’re naturally full of essential nutrients like folate, potassium, vitamin K, and vitamin C!

✨Yogurt – To regulate your immune system and boost your body’s natural defenses against disease, Vitamin D is your go-to. Yogurt can be a great source of Vitamin D, if you get the right kind. Look for “live and active cultures” like Greek yogurt. Also, aim for plain yogurts you can sweeten yourself with honey and fruit, not the stuff loaded with sugar.

✨Green Tea - Epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG) is a powerful antioxidant found in Green tea. EGCG has been shown to enhance immune function.

✨Red bell peppers – Believe it or not, the BEST source of Vitamin C isn’t citrus but Red bell peppers. One Red bell pepper has twice the amount of Vitamin C as citrus. Not only will they boost your immune system, Red bell peppers will also help maintain healthy skin. BONUS.

The beauty of the internet is the influx of information at the literal tips of your fingers, however some of that information isn’t always interpreted the correct way. This is why you should always consult with your dermatologist before you believe everything you read online. Here are few misconceptions about skincare that should know: ❌Layering several products with SPF ratings increases protection.
In other words, a foundation with an SPF of 10, moisturizer with an SPF of 15 and a sunscreen with an SPF of 20 does not result in an SPF rating of 45.
❌Natural and organic products are always better.
Many times, active ingredients have to be synthesized to be bioavailable and efficacious. Synthetic compounds can actually be identical to those found in nature and be more effective. If a product is natural or laboratory-processed shouldn’t be your deciding factor about whether a product is good or bad. Not all chemicals are bad, and not all natural or organic ingredients are good.
❌Using larger quantities of a product will yield better results.
Less is more. Normally, a pea-sized amount of facial product will do the trick. Excessive amounts can cause skin problems and waste money.
❌Indoor tanning is safe.
The argument that tanning beds and booths do not cause skin mutations that may cause cancerous lesions to develop is FALSE. UVA rays found in indoor tanning beds lead to deeper, more harmful skin damage. You do not have to have a sunburn to create damage to skin cells.
❌Strong scrubs, soaps and abrasives are good for your skin.
Be careful how you wash your face. Too much scrubbing or too many abrasive products can remove protective oils, create tiny micro tears and contribute to aging, and irritated skin. A gentle cleanser and light moisturizer work well for most people. Again, less is more.
