With COVID-19, we’re reminded that none of us are invincible. It’s important to maintain a strong immune system for our health, no matter what age we are. Diet is a HUGE part of our immune system; these are some foods that can help naturally boost your immune system.

✨Ginger – A popular ingredient we turn to after getting sick. This is because it has anti-inflammatory properties, which can help soothe a sore throat and other inflammatory illnesses.

✨Almonds – We don’t always think of Vitamin E when fighting off a cold, but Vitamin E is key to a healthy immune system. Nuts (like almonds) are packed with Vitamin E and also a great source for healthy fats!

✨Citrus fruits – Were all familiar with the health benefits of Vitamin C, but did you know it’s not just Oranges that are rich in Vitamin C, Grapefruits, Limes, Lemons, Tangerines, and Clementines are just as Vitamin C rich.

✨Broccoli – Clearly is the superstar of the group. Packed with Vitamin A, C, and E as well as other antioxidants and fiber, a serving of Broccoli a day and you’ll be good to go! The trick is keeping all vitamins and minerals in tacked when eat it. Try cooking it as little as possible.

✨Papaya – Still not a fan or citrus? That’s ok Papaya is loaded with Vitamin C. One Papaya has 224% of the daily recommended amount of Vitamin C.

✨Kiwi – You can’t go wrong with Kiwi’s, they’re naturally full of essential nutrients like folate, potassium, vitamin K, and vitamin C!

✨Yogurt – To regulate your immune system and boost your body’s natural defenses against disease, Vitamin D is your go-to. Yogurt can be a great source of Vitamin D, if you get the right kind. Look for “live and active cultures” like Greek yogurt. Also, aim for plain yogurts you can sweeten yourself with honey and fruit, not the stuff loaded with sugar.

✨Green Tea - Epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG) is a powerful antioxidant found in Green tea. EGCG has been shown to enhance immune function.

✨Red bell peppers – Believe it or not, the BEST source of Vitamin C isn’t citrus but Red bell peppers. One Red bell pepper has twice the amount of Vitamin C as citrus. Not only will they boost your immune system, Red bell peppers will also help maintain healthy skin. BONUS.

The beauty of the internet is the influx of information at the literal tips of your fingers, however some of that information isn’t always interpreted the correct way. This is why you should always consult with your dermatologist before you believe everything you read online. Here are few misconceptions about skincare that should know: ❌Layering several products with SPF ratings increases protection.
In other words, a foundation with an SPF of 10, moisturizer with an SPF of 15 and a sunscreen with an SPF of 20 does not result in an SPF rating of 45.
❌Natural and organic products are always better.
Many times, active ingredients have to be synthesized to be bioavailable and efficacious. Synthetic compounds can actually be identical to those found in nature and be more effective. If a product is natural or laboratory-processed shouldn’t be your deciding factor about whether a product is good or bad. Not all chemicals are bad, and not all natural or organic ingredients are good.
❌Using larger quantities of a product will yield better results.
Less is more. Normally, a pea-sized amount of facial product will do the trick. Excessive amounts can cause skin problems and waste money.
❌Indoor tanning is safe.
The argument that tanning beds and booths do not cause skin mutations that may cause cancerous lesions to develop is FALSE. UVA rays found in indoor tanning beds lead to deeper, more harmful skin damage. You do not have to have a sunburn to create damage to skin cells.
❌Strong scrubs, soaps and abrasives are good for your skin.
Be careful how you wash your face. Too much scrubbing or too many abrasive products can remove protective oils, create tiny micro tears and contribute to aging, and irritated skin. A gentle cleanser and light moisturizer work well for most people. Again, less is more.
